If you lived in a cave and don’t know what is all the rave about ChatGPT, below here is a self introduction:

One of OpenAI founders is Elon, hence the bias.

Will ChatGPT take over Google Search? (Opinion)

  • Majority of the articles mention it won’t from short term to mid term point of. view. The talking points are around ChatGPT is not accurate enough for important work. At times it provide answers that are not correct at all but sound so sure of it.
  • Google’s LaMbDA was said to be a superior version of ChatGPT is not released but has been around longer. Google is definitely looking at OpenAI’s move for any potential threats. When push comes to shove, Google has the option to release LaMBDA as a competitor. However this might be too late.
  • Google might be having a Kodak moment as it is a company with more reputation to lose than OpenAI ( The situation in which a business fails to foresee changes within its industry and drops from a market-dominant position to being a minor player or declares bankruptcyquotations ▼)
  • Google’s search engine right now is more accurate and tuned to human beings because of constant update of the page_rank algorithm which is updated in real time.
  • If OpenAI figures out learning in real time similar to ranking of information, it should be able to address the inaccurate answers problem – that seems to be the biggest issue for now.

Takeaways:

  • While ChatGPT is free right now, it may not be in the future. Powering the world’s traffic and interest is expensive. As a startup OpenAI need to begin monetising soon. It may stop disrupting as soon as it closes this free beta testing period.
  • Micosoft have said it want to use ChatGPT in its search engine “Bing”. Let’s see how that goes, but I am sure under the brand of Microsoft, we would not be able to search as many different things as we could right now as Microsoft does not want to breach copyrights/plagiarism.
    • Likely cannot ask ChatGPT to provide coding solutions.
    • Likely cannot ask ChatGPT to write essays.
